IELTS Preparation Course

IELTS is the International English Language Testing System. It is a test designed to prove people's English skills. IELTS is accepted worldwide by universities, employers and professional bodies. Most students take the exam because they want to study at a university where the lectures and seminars are given in English. You can take the exam at any time of year and it is available in many different countries.

In order to do well in the exam, it is important to prepare properly. The English for IELTS course at Bath School of English is taught by experienced examination class teachers. We will help you prepare thoroughly for all four parts of the IELTS examination - Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking, and give you examination tips and advice to help you achieve the highest Band you can.

Candidates are tested in Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing. All four parts of the test are normally taken on the same day and marked on a scale from 0 - 9. The exam results are in the form of an overall score, or ‘Band’, and an individual score for each of the four parts of the examination.

All candidates take the same Listening and Speaking modules, but they can choose between an Academic or General Training module in the Reading and Writing parts of the test. Candidates hoping to study at an English-medium university are often required to take the Academic module.

The Academic module is designed to test a range of formal language skills necessary for undergraduate and postgraduate study, while the General Training module is designed for basic survival skills in a broad social and educational context.

The English for IELTS course at Bath School of English focuses on the Academic Reading and Writing modules. The course is suitable for students planning to apply to a university where the main language of instruction is English, and who need an IELTS certificate to prove their level of English. The Academic modules test your ability to use English for academic purposes, such as writing a discursive essay, or extracting information from academic texts.
